EVENT SCHEDULE

September 9th - 11th, 2022

John Redmond Reservoir

                                                                                                                                                                                                          OK Kids stands for Outdoor Kansas for Kids. The Kansas Wildscape Foundation and a group of national and local sponsors have made this an annual event throughout the State of Kansas where local communities and park and recreation agencies are encouraged to provide fun and entertaining events to help give kids a better appreciation of the outdoors.

 

CAMPING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT RIVERSIDE WEST CAMPGROUNDS

All vehicles must remain at campsites during event unless leaving campgrounds. For safety reasons ALL PETS will need to be on leashes and kept at campsites only.

                                                                                                                                           SHUTTLE SERVICE WILL BE PROVIDED FROM THE PARKING LOT TO ALL THE EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY AT RIVERSIDE WEST.

 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH

7:15-9:00 am       PANCAKE BREAKFAST - Radiant Life Church will be providing a free pancake     breakfast before the fishing tournament at the New Strawn Community Center.

9-10:30 am         FISHING TOURNAMENT AT NEW STRAWN LAKE – CATCH AND RELEASE - Kids under 9 are required to have a responsible adult in attendance. Please bring your own fishing pole. No artificial lures or outside bait will be allowed. Participants must use the worms that will be provided. Sponsored by the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, and Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge.  Registration begins at 8:15.

10:30-4:30 pm     YARD GAMES – Challenge your family and friends to some fun competition by participating in a variety of these games.

11:00-4:30 pm     BUBBLE, SIDEWALK CHALK, & COOLING STATIONS – Get artistic and creative with this new sensory event. Sponsored by Coffey County Mothers of Pre-Schoolers.

                     FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE OUTREACH EXHIBIT

11:30-12:30 pm   FREE LUNCH - Enjoy a grilled hot dog, and chips courtesy of Coffey Health System. Shelter house #6

12:30-1:15 pm     EMPORIA ZOO REPTILE PRESENTATION – Join staff from the Emporia Zoo as they discuss the value of Kansas’s native reptiles.

12:30-4:00 pm     FACEPAINTING - Take a walk on your wild side by visiting one of our face painters from the BHS Art Club.

1:00-4:30 pm       ONGOING ACTIVITIES AT RIVERSIDE WEST

  • Canoeing – Canoes and lifejackets provided. Coffey County Water rescue will supervise.

  • Portable Climbing Wall – Race yourself and your friends to the top of our 20ft climbing wall.

  • Disc Golf – Try your luck with this popular outdoor sport. Equipment is provided.

  • Putt Putt and Other Library Activities - Join the 6 branches of the Coffey County Library for crafts, outdoor sensory play, games, and outdoor fun! 

  • Pellet Shoot – Test your marksmanship skills at this booth.

  • Tie-Dyed Shirt Station – Be creative at this new event and create your own personalized OK Kids Event t-shirt.

  • Dunk Tank – Test your aiming and throwing skills with our dunk tank and try to dunk your friends or family

  • Pedal Cars – Test your skills in one of our pedal cars.

  • Archery – Try your hand at this popular event.

  • Paintball Shoot – Equipment and supplies provided by CC Sheriff Reserves.

  • Inflatables – Challenge your friends or family on one of these inflatables.

  • Build a Birdhouse – Build a birdhouse with the Wolf Creek Green Team. All materials and tools provided.

  • Sling Shot Target Shooting – Shoot wildlife decoys, metal, & movable targets at this exciting event. Provided by Burlington Police Department and Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge

  • Trap Shooting - Kansas Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism and Quail Forever will be hosting this year’s event which is located at the Coffey County gun club, South end of the dam. Participants should not bring their own firearms as everything needed will be provided. Transportation will be provided to this event every 30 minutes from Riverside West starting at 12:45.

 

1:30-2:30 pm      FIREFIGHTERS COMPETITION – Wear your swimsuit and be ready to get wet!

2:00-3:00 pm     SNOW CONES – Join Hope Anthem Church at Shelter house #6 for a flavored snow cone.

4:30-5:15 pm      ULTIMATE FRISBEE - Join staff from Burlington Recreation for a game of ultimate frisbee.

5:30-7:00 pm     FREE SUPPER– The Sheriff’s Office will be providing a BBQ supper. Shelter house #6

                     HAYRACK RIDES – Bikes are not permitted on the roads after dark.

AT DUSK        MOVIE AND POPCORN – Bring a lawn chair or beach towel to enjoy this fun event. Sponsored by Burlington Recreation Commission and Coffey County Fire District #1.

 SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH

7:00-9:30 am      FREE BREAKFAST – The Coffey County Fire District #1 is sponsoring a breakfast for all campers or participants of OK KIDS at Shelter house #6.

9:00 am           WORSHIP SERVICE – Join us during breakfast for our Sunday morning worship service at Shelter house #6.
