Please observe Quite Time in campgrounds
at 10:30 pm.


For the safety of event goers and pets, please keep all pets on a leash at your campsite during the OK Kids Coffey County Event.

If you are planning to attend Saturday's events but not camp, please leave pets at home.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE 2009 EVENT SCHEDULE.
THE 2010 SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED IN JULY OF 2010.

Saturday

9:00-10:30 am    Fishing Tourney at New Strawn City Lake - Catch and Release.
Kids under 9 are required to have a responsible adult in attendance. Please bring own fishing pole; worms will be provided. Sponsored by Coffey County Sheriff's Office.

11:30-12:30 pm    Free Lunch at Riverside West, Shelter House #6
Enjoy a grilled hot dog, chips, and snack cake courtesy of Coffey Health System.

12:30-4:00 pm    
Activities at Riverside West Campground
  • Archery - T.H.E. Archery Club of Topeka provides safe and fun instruction for this event.
  • Canoeing - Canoes and lifejackets provided. Coffey County Water Rescue will supervise. Kids under 9 years require supervising adult.
  • Crafts - Create your own "mad hatter" paper sack hat!
  • Dunk Tank - Try your hand at hitting the bulls-eye and dunking your favorite local celebrity.
  • Laser Shoot- Look for this event in the enclosed trailer near the shower house. 
  • Moonwalk-Slide - New this year! Bounce and slide in the great outdoors.
  • Paintball Trail Shoot - Guided trail through wooded area with targets to test your accuracy. Equipment and supplies sponsored by Coffey County Sheriff Reserves.
  • Pellet Shoot - Test your marksmanship skills at this activity.
  • Rope Bridge - Picture yourself above the Grand Canyon as you traverse this man-made bridge. Sponsored by Boy Scout Troop #139. Inclement weather cancels this event.
  • "Smokey Bear" will be visiting with event-goers throughout the campground.

1:00-2:00 pm    Firefighter Competition
Wear your swimsuit and be prepared to get wet. It takes skill and patience to get the barrel to the other side with only a stream of water! Sponsored by Coffey County Fire District #1

2:30-3:30 pm    Birds of Prey--New this year!
These powerful hunters of the sky have intrigued humans for years. Learn about the importance of these predators.

2:45 pm    Trap Shooting Participants meet at the Day Parking Area lot for shuttle. Only one shuttle is provided for this off-site event. The shuttle van leaves at 3pm. No other shuttle will run to this event.

3:00 pm    Trap Shooting
Ducks Unlimited and the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department host this event at the John Redmond Sportsman Shooting Range on the west end of the dam. Transportation provided from Day Parking Area lot; shuttle leaves at 3 pm--be at the Day Parking Area gate at 2:45 pm.

3:30-5:00 pm    Fascinating Weather Facts (cancelled)
Local meteorologist shares and demonstrates fascinating weather facts.

4:30-5:30 pm    Boat Rides
Sit back and enjoy a ride on the old Neosho River Channel without having to paddle a canoe.

5:00-7:00 pm    Magic by Pete
Back for another magical year! Prepare to be entertained with illusion and humor. Sponsored by The Medicine Shoppe.

5:30-7:00 pm    Free BBQ Supper and Dessert Cook-off at Riverside West, Shelter House #6
The Coffey County Sheriff's Office & Cactus Shak Catering sponsors a free BBQ supper. Prize drawings for kids follows supper. Local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops will be having a dessert cooking contest (sponsored by Burlington Tax) to go along with ice cream!

7:00-8:30 pm    Hayrack Rides
Enjoy a ride on the wagon through the campground as the sun sets on a great day!  Kids without an intact wristband may not ride without a supervising adult.

9:00-10:30 pm    Movie & Popcorn
Star Video sponsors this event complete with family-oriented movie and popcorn in the evening air. Bring a lawn chair, blanket, or beach towel to sit on.


10:30 pm Quite Time in campgrounds


Sunday

8:00-9:30 am    Free Breakfast at Riverside West Shelter House #6
Coffey County Fire District #1 does it right with hot, fresh pancakes, sausage patties, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee. Come and get it!
