A Rain or Shine Good Time!

O.K. Kids stands for Outdoor Kansas for Kids. The Kansas Wildscape Foundation and a group of national and local sponsors have made this an annual event throughout the State of Kansas where local communities and park and recreation agencies are encouraged to provide fun and entertaining outdoor events to help give kids a better appreciation of the outdoors.

T.H.E. Archery is one of the most popular activities at O.K. Kids Coffey County. In Coffey County, Kansas, we've made it a whole weekend of fun at John Redmond Reservoir Riverside West campgrounds.

Camp, Play, & Enjoy the Great Outdoors

The Coffey County event includes free camping (tent or RV) for the event weekend. Event campers are required to reserve a campsite via phone or email - campers click here. You don't have to camp to come and enjoy a day of outdoor fun. Day parking area available for event go-ers coming just for the day.

The 2010 event will kick-off Friday evening (7:30 pm) with live music provided by First Assembly of God Church (Burlington). Bring your lawn chairs to Shelter #6 and enjoy the music.

Saturday's activities start, rain or shine, at 8:15 am with the catch and release fishing tourney at New Strawn City Lake. Registration begins at 8:15 am; the tourney begins at 9:00 (ends at 10:30 am).

Back at Riverside West, shuttle service from the day parking area begins. Free lunch at Shelter #6 (hot dogs & chips) is followed by the Eagle Valley Raptor Center "Birds of Prey" show under the big tent.  Shuttle service will be suspended during the bird show for the safety of the birds and event go-ers.

After the show, activity stations start and shuttle service runs from the day parking area to all activity stations throughout the campgrounds; special activities are scheduled throughout the day--check the schedule for times.

Free BBQ supper at 5:30 is followed by the dessert cook-off contest then hayrack rides and movie & popcorn and finally, quite time (about 10:30 pm).

Sunday starts with a free breakfast served hot and fresh 8:00 to 9:30 am followed by a worship service (9:00 am) that concludes the "free for all" weekend!--yes! come back for a great breakfast Sunday morning even if you don't camp overnight!

Shuttle rides run throughout the day from day parking to activity stations in Riverside WestShuttle Service

Hayrack ride shuttles run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.

The shuttle stops at the Day Parking Area (main entrance) and all events in the campground.

SHUTTLE SERVICE WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM 12:30-1:30 PM FOR THE SAFETY OF THE BIRDS OF PREY SHOW AND EVENT GO-ERS (accessibility needs will be handled upon request). SHUTTLE SERVICE WILL RESUME AT 1:30 PM.
